Catalyst SENDCo Network April 2023

Welcome to our latest edition of the Catalyst Courier. If you have information to share or topics you’d like us to cover please get in touch ([email protected])

This SENDCO Network was held at the Old Parsonage, with information from Kivlan Legate, Trainee Educational Psychologist on his doctoral thesis project 'Community Cohesion in Schools'. Dr Teresa Regan and Grace Stevens had updates on resources that have been posted to the website.

Community Cohesion in Schools

Following the Manchester arena attack, the Department For Education commissioned two training packages. One training package focused on critical incident response in schools, and one focused on community cohesion in schools. The DFE commissioned a research project to develop the training resources into an online resource that could be used flexibly by EPs. This project was taken on by Kivlan Legate as his thesis for the Child and Educational Psychology doctoral training at the University of Manchester. It is a participatory action research project, and involved six EPs from services across the North West who met 8 times from Sept 2021 to April 2023.

Kiv presented the background to his research, and the SENDCOs who attended the network had a preview of the resources and training materials that will be available online. The resources are not available to share publicly currently; however we wish Kiv the best of luck as he submits his thesis, and completes the last term of his training as an Trainee EP!
