Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

An Introduction to Developmental Language Disorder

Rachael Tuckley, Speech and Language Therapist from "Sound Talk"  was a guest speaker at the SENDCO Networks in December 2018 and March 2019

Rachael has worked as a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist in the Manchester and North West area for 10 years. During this time she has worked with children in clinics, nurseries, primary schools, community centres and family homes. Rachael also spent 2 years working in Kenya as a Speech and Language Therapy volunteer with Voluntary Service Overseas, working with Kenya Institute of Special Education.

Rachael is particularly passionate about working with bilingual and multilingual children with speech, language and communication needs.

Recent research and practice has changed the way we understand developmental language disorder, which is more prevalent than is often recognised. This "hidden" need can have a profound impact on children's access to the curriculum. Rachael's session is both informative and practical.

Rachael has made her slides available for SENDCOs to use as a reference point or to support training for their school teams. You can download Rachael's slides here:
