Data protection and confidentiality

 

School staff

What information will we collect?

In order to participate in this project we will need to collect information about your role in school. We will not ask for your name or any other information that will identify you as an individual.

How long will we keep the information for?

In line with the retention policy for this project, your information will be stored for a period of five years on the Catalyst Psychology encrypted drives, but it will be entirely anonymous.

Why are we collecting this information (legal basis)?

We are collecting and storing this personal identifiable information in accordance with UK data protection law which protects your rights. These state that we must have a legal basis (specific reason) for collecting your data. For this project, the specific reason is that it is a “ public interest task” and “ a process necessary for research purposes”.

What are your rights in relation to the information we will collect?

You have a number of rights under data protection law regarding your personal information for example you can request a copy of the information we hold about you.

How will your participation be confidential, and your personal identity be protected?

In accordance with data protection law, Catalyst Psychology CIC is the data controller for this project. This means that we are responsible for making sure your personal information is kept secure, confidential and used only in the way you have been told it will be used all members of the project team are trained with this in mind and your data will be looked after in the following way:

  • only the project team at Catalyst Psychology CIC will have access to completed questionnaires
  • Your data will be anonymized at the point of collection
  • At the end of the project (March 2025) all data stored and retained will be in an anonymised format only

 

Pupils

What information will we collect?

In order to participate in this project we will need to collect information about your child. We will ask for:

  • Child’s name
  • Country of birth
  • Gender
  • Languages spoken at home
  • Age

Your child may be invited to discuss their ideas in a group. We will record the discussion. Your child will not be identified in the discussion and the tape will be wiped after the researcher has transcribed the discussion.

Why are we collecting this information (legal basis)?

We are undertaking research about what helps children to be happy and settled in school. We want to know how best to help children who have come from different countries or who speak different languages. Our research will be more useful if we know about your child’s country and languages.
